The United Nations has designated 2013 as the International Year of
Water Cooperation in recognition of the importance of water, and water's
cross-cutting aspects, which demand attention at all levels and across
all sectors including energy, agriculture, fisheries, transport and
industry. 783 million people still lack access to proper drinking water
and 2.6 billion still lack access to improved sanitation services.
Global demand for water will soar by 55% over the next 50 years. This
session seeks to identify the way forward towards establishing effective
global policies on water, and how such policies can be translated into
practical action on the ground through cutting-edge, innovative
technologies and properly allocated funds.
